Two end-of-season Combination cup tournaments have been cancelled

The Cheltenham and District Rugby Combination has joined its counterparts in Gloucester by cancelling the end-of-season cup competitions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bob Ellis, the president of the Cheltenham Combination, confirmed that this season’s competition, which was due to get under way on Tuesday 31st March, will not now take place.

The North Gloucestershire Combination had already taken the decision to cancel their three cup competitions with organiser Andy Payne admitting it was one that was made “with great sadness”.

The North Gloucestershire Combination’s competition also kicked off on 31st March but with the Rugby Football Union suspending all levels of the game in England until 14th April there simply wasn’t enough time to get all the ties played with both finals days due to take have taken place on the first weekend in May.

The Stroud and District Combination’s cup games are still on at this stage, however, with organiser Simon Collyer-Bristow telling The Local Answer that “no decision had yet been made”.

A number of matches in the Stroud Combination’s competitions have already been played.
