Fairford chasing double delight when they take on Stroud Nomads in Stroud and District Combination’s Junior Cup final

Fairford are chasing a league and cup double on Saturday when they take on Stroud Nomads in the final of the Stroud and District Combination’s Junior Cup.
The match takes place at Cirencester (kick-off 3pm) and Fairford will certainly go into the game in good heart after their 11-10 Gloucestershire Two North/South play-off win over Bream at the end of last month.
Fairford are the Junior Cup holders but their elevation to Gloucestershire One means their flagship team will be competing in the Stroud Combination’s Senior Cup competition next season.
This season’s Senior Cup was won by Dursley who were 42-22 winners over Cirencester. It was the fifth time in a row that Dursley have won the cup.
And there was more good news for Dursley because their 2nd XV won the Combination’s Junior Plate with an exciting 34-22 win over Cainscross at Painswick on Saturday.
The match was watched by a decent crowd and after the final spectators were treated to the Jack Mitchell Memorial game between Painswick and Royal Artillery 32 Regiment with the Army team running out 37-32 winners, scoring with the last play of the game.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
