Gloucestershire Ladies made a successful start to their Gill Burns County Championship campaign with an emphatic 66-10 win over Devon at North Bristol.

Gloucestershire included Tewkesbury’s Sophie Johnson and Cheltenham’s Emma Mundy in their starting line-up – Hucclecote’s Molly Danks and Dursley’s Kathryn Thompson were on the bench – and they were always too strong for Devon, scoring five tries in each half.

Vicky Foxwell of Worcester Valkyries was also in fine form with the boot, slotting eight conversions.

Johnson and Mundy were among the try-scorers with hooker/flanker Johnson scoring in the opening quarter and full-back Mundy bursting through to score after the break.

Bristol Bears prop Simi Pam scored four tries and there was one apiece for Charlotte Wright-Haley (Bristol Bears), Daisy French (Worcester Valkyries), Chloe May-Barton (Worcester Valkyries) and replacement Jade Gramlin (St Mary’s Old Boys).

Gloucestershire travel to Reading on Sunday to take on Berkshire (2pm).
