Mark Peacey to stand down as forwards coach at Old Patesians

Old Patesians forwards coach Mark Peacey will be standing down from his role at the end of the season.
Peacey has chosen to vacate his role in order to allow the incoming head coach the freedom to appoint a coaching team of their choosing. Head coach Craig Jones announced at the start of the new year that he would be standing down once the current campaign was over.
Peacey said: “Taking on the role of head coach at a new club must be hard enough, having to do that with other coaches in post around you is surely something else.
“I love this club and want the new person to have every possible opportunity to succeed. I will gladly offer my full support but I also want them to have the freedom to make their own choices. I would hate to be in their way.”
Peacey, 36, has been coaching at the Old Pats for the last 12 years, where he started out as Colts coach having called time on playing due to repeated injury.
He progressed to 2nd XV coach in 2014 before taking on the role of forwards coach in 2016. Peacey is also a coach of the county under-20s team that has had such a great start to the county championship campaign this term.
Matt Cape, chairman of rugby at Old Pats, said: “Mark’s decision is a very brave and selfless one and he is to be applauded for it.
“Mark has been a great servant for the Pats over many years since he first played for the under-11s and I know he will still be there for the boys, just from the other side of the barrier next year.
“His passion for great rugby on the field and a great time off it are what the Old Pats is all about.”
The club, who are playing in South West Premier this season, will be announcing their plans for 2019-20 before Easter and are confident of securing the services of some high profile candidates in the meantime.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
