Drybrook cheers as they celebrate South West One West title in style

As 125th anniversary bashes go this will take some beating.

This is the picture of Drybrook’s ecstatic players after they defeated their fiercest rivals Newent 34-10 at their place to win the South West One West title.

It’s been an amazing story of success for the Forest of Dean club, who spent the whole campaign reeling in long-time leaders Exeter University before finally overhauling them earlier this month.

Drybrook’s heroes won 24 of their 26 league games this season, and what makes their record even more impressive is that one of those defeats came on the opening day of the season against Newent.

Their other defeat was also eye-catching because it came against Clevedon earlier this year – and Clevedon finished the season bottom of the table!

While that defeat, looking back, is quite remarkable, what is equally remarkable is that the village club formed in 1893 will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Maidenhead, Newton Abbot and Bracknell in South West Premier next season.

And they will also be up against another club from these parts following Old Patesians’ title-winning success in South West One East.
