Megan Goddard is still walking on cloud nine after getting to play in one of the most famous shirts in world rugby.

The Gloucester/Hartpury star, who works as a teacher at Bournside School in Cheltenham, was one of the stars of the show as the Barbarians, the world renowned invitational side, fielded a women’s team for the first time.

The match took place against Munster at Thomond Park last week and, for the record, the Baa-Baas’ women’s team now boast a 100 per cent record after winning 19-0.

For Megan, who plays at fly-half or in the centre, the call-up to play for the Baa-Baas was the latest in an impressive line of recent achievements.

She has already been capped five times by England and at the age of 23 has plenty of time to add to her collection of honours.

She admits that she “just couldn’t say no” when she got the call inviting her to play for the Baa-Baas, adding: “It was exciting news.”

She also admitted that she was amazed by the amount of interest that the game generated.

“The match ‘blew up’ the Barbarians’ Twitter feed,” she said. “I didn’t realise how big the game was.”

She does now, of course, and the game in Ireland has served only to whet her appetite.

Megan, a former pupil at Chosen Hill who has been playing rugby since the age of 11, added: “I want to do so much more.”

And the way she’s going, she certainly will.
