He takes over from Dave Booth, who has stood down after four years.
Fritchley is well known in Gloucester rugby circles through his lifetime’s association with Old Centralians, who play in South West One East.
He describes himself as “born and bred Old Cents” and is the current chairman of the club.
He played for the club until he was 40 and his brothers David and Joe both captained the club. His nephew Scott has led the first team for the past two seasons.
The Fritchley connection doesn’t end there because Stan’s son Mark is the fixture secretary and also plays in the second row or no. 8 for the second team and the first team when needed.
Stan Fritchley, who played in the backs back in the day, was at Kingsholm last month to see Old Cents win the North Gloucestershire Combination’s senior and junior cups.
Meanwhile, Andy Payne is to continue as treasurer of the North Gloucestershire Combination. Payne had said he was going to stand down along with Booth but has now said he will continue in his role.
He is also continuing as the Combination’s secretary but is looking for someone to take on that role.
Booth said: “The Combination needs a new secretary. Andy has agreed to help out in the short term but his work commitments mean he can’t do both jobs.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
