Gloucester Athletic Club star Charlie Price aiming for the Paralympic Games in Los Angeles
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Sunday, 26th October 2025, 09:00
The impressive Charlie Price has been given a huge boost as she targets a place at the Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
The Gloucester Athletic Club member has just been named by UK Athletics in the Paralympic Futures Programme for 2025/26.
She is one of just 19 athletes who have been selected and her coach Bob Purcell said: “It’s massive, it’s a three-year programme, the aim is LA in 2028.
“It will be a lot of hard work but it is recognition for what she has achieved so far.”
Price, who is 24, is being earmarked for the 100 metres framerunning and Purcell, who is lead para-athletics coach at Gloucester AC, believes it is a realistic goal.
“She is by far the best in the UK, her PB is 18.7 seconds," he said.
“The world record is 17 seconds-plus so she’s got to knock off a second. That doesn’t sound a lot but it’s an enormous hill to climb.”
Purcell believes she can get to the summit, or least close to it, however.
“Age is on her side,” he continued. “She’s getting stronger and I’m very optimistic she’ll challenge for a medal.
“Put it this way, if she’d been at this year’s World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi and performed at her best she’d have won a bronze.”
The Paralympics Futures Programme will allow Price, who lives in Coleford, access to high performance centres around the UK.
“There’s also the possibility of some funding, that’s something we’re still sweating on,” added Purcell.
But while Los Angeles is the dream, there are plenty of other competitions for Price to target in the meantime.
“There will be another European Championships and another Worlds before 2028,” said Purcell.
“There are plenty of steps along the way, we’re on the runway.”Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
