Mike Edwards is chasing a treble top with Boher Lad at Newton Abbot

Mike Edwards will be heading down to Devon later this week to see if Boher Lad can make it a treble top.
The 12-year-old is running at Newton Abbot on Friday and Edwards fancies the Alan Phillips-trained horse’s chances after a wonderful few months.
“He’s had two wins, two seconds and sixth in his last six races,” Edwards purred. “Because of his age we were going to give him just one more run before we retired him but he won it and he’s been in great form ever since.”
That win was at Stratford in April and Edwards added: “The handicapper has been putting a bit of weight on him but he’s still on a winnable mark.”
The hurdler is one of three horses owned by Mike Edwards and his family and all three are trained by Phillips at Callow End in Worcester.
“We’ve just bought a half-share of the mare Ballinamona Flyer with Karl Brookes from Guiting Power,” said Edwards, who lives in Guiting Power. “We bought her from Colin Bowe in County Wexford, she’s a prospective chaser.”
The family already part-own Why Lie with Evan Lewis from Stanton.
“He’s a hurdler but he will go chasing before long, he’s starting to show a bit of form,” added Edwards.
Boher Lad will be ridden by claiming jockey Charlie Todd on Friday and Edwards is certainly a big fan.
“He’s going to be a star of the future,” said Edwards. “He’s only about 19 but the kid is good, really good.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
