Your ‘magnificent seven’ top tips for tonight’s Hunter Chase Evening meeting at Cheltenham Racecourse

The Local Answer’s expert racing tipster Mike Edwards has teamed with an expert from the point-to-point/hunter chase world – Evan Lewis – to pick seven selections for tonight’s evening meeting at Cheltenham Racecourse (first race 4.55pm).
Race 1 – The bold front-running Broken Eagle would be at the top of most people’s list for the opener if given its preferred fast going. However, with the going likely to be softer than that it likes, the selection is MONSIEUR GIBRALTAR.
Race 2 – The Connolly’s Red Mills Intermediate Point-to-point Championship Final could be a cracking race, and with so many young improving horses it would take a brave person to risk the mortgage on this race. But DUHALLOW TORNADO has won all four races this season, including two over regulation fences, which could stand it in good stead here and, should it make the trip down from Yorkshire, is the selection. Among the dangers are Ballybane and Summer Sounds, and it would be no surprise to see some of these horses make their name at a higher grade in the next couple of years.
Race 3 – The 6.05 is another tricky race for punters and, should it go for this race rather than its alternative engagement, the tentative selection is locally trained and ridden BALLY RIVER BOY, with Ally Stirling on board, which might be suited by a battle up the Cheltenham hill.
Race 4 – BARREL OF LAUGHS is confidently tipped to repeat last year’s win in the Timico Final and is the Nap Bet of the evening, and has never been out of the frame in five previous visits to the course. However, it is likely to start at a short price.
Race 5 – Another that could well repeat last year’s success is FRELIA in the mares’ race. The main dangers could be Dabinett Moon and the evergreen veteran Popaway, and should this winner of 19 races add to her total she would get one of the biggest cheers of the evening.
Race 6 – Following the wet winter the four-miler will be a true test of stamina, and many of these will struggle to get up the Cheltenham hill. SUPREME DANEHILL was an impressive winner of the four-mile Southern Grand National on its last run at Kingston Blount, and handles soft ground, so is the selection.
Race 7 – Full Trottle won the final race last year and is a recent Ludlow winner following on from successful wind surgery, and should again go close but this year’s renewal looks stronger. SALUBRIOUS, who returned from an injury and 752 days off the course, was a very easy winner at Exeter a month ago, and this winner of over £62,000 in prize money is the selection in the final get out stakes. The in-form Mr Mercurial is also one to seriously consider.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
