Nicky Henderson can complete a big race double with Altior on day two of the Cheltenham Festival

Nicky Henderson had plenty to celebrate on day one of the Cheltenham Festival and his supporters are expected to be popping the champagne corks again tomorrow on day two.
So says Mike Edwards, The Local Answer’s racing tipster, who had a pretty good first day himself on the tipping front.
Henderson won the big race on day one – the UniBet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy – with Buveur D’Air and he is confidently backed to follow up tomorrow with success in the Betway Queen Mother Chase with Altior.
“He’s the best horse in the field by a mile,” said Edwards. “He’s odds-on for a reason and is way ahead on form.”
Edwards, who lives in Guiting Power, also has a strong fancy in the cross-country race, which follows immediately after the showpiece race of the day.
“Cause of Causes won it last year and I think he’ll win it again this year,” said Edwards. “It’s an unusual course but he’s proven over it and Gordon Elliott is one of the top trainers around.”
Trainer Patrick Kelly has a great chance of scooping the honours in the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase at 2.10pm with Presenting Percy, says Edwards.
And Edwards knows what he’s talking about, because Presenting Percy is sired by the same horse – Gold Well – as his family’s horse Boher Lad.
“Yes, I’m particularly interested in seeing how Presenting Percy runs,” chuckled Edwards. “He’s a good horse. He won at the Festival last year in the Pertemps Hurdle Final and recently came a good second to Our Duke, who is one of the big fancies in this year’s Gold Cup, in Ireland.”
And Edwards admits he can’t see past the Gordon Elliott-trained Samcro in the opening race on day two.
“He looks nailed on,” said Edwards, “he’s red hot.”
Mike Edwards’ top tips on day two:
1.30 – Samcro
2.10 – Presenting Percy
2.50 – Burbank
3.30 – Altior
4.10 – Cause of Causes. Nap
4.50 – Mitchuko
5.30 – Tornado FlyerCopyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
