Brickhampton Court Golf Club has started the new year in fine style by being achieving a hat-trick of accreditations from England Golf.

The Churchdown club, which was built in 1994 and opened to members a year later, has just received the GolfMark award, incorporating Sport England’s Clubmark award as well as SafeGolf. The awards demonstrate the 850-member club’s commitment to safeguarding children and young people, as well as adults at risk, in the sport of golf.

Brickhampton Court is backing the drive to grow the game and GolfMark is an official seal of approval for clubs which successfully work to develop the game in a number of ways.

Firstly, by attracting new members and encouraging existing members to play more; secondly, using practical business planning to develop the club; thirdly, offering coaching and playing opportunities for all golfers; and fourthly, ensuring safeguarding policies are in place.

Steven Creed, managing director of Brickhampton Court Golf Complex who led the club’s push to SafeGolf/GolfMark, said: “Brickhampton Court is looking forward to encouraging young people into the sport and in turn it will help to grow the game of golf. Being a friendly, welcoming and forward-thinking venue, this award helps us to spread that message and to tell people that children are safe and secure here and that we understand about beginner golfers.”

The award was presented to Brickhampton Court by England Golf’s club support officer Debbie Casling, who said: “I’m delighted that Brickhampton Court has achieved GolfMark/SafeGolf and that its efforts to grow the game can be nationally recognised.”

The GolfMark award was developed by England Golf and also integrates Sport England’s Clubmark award – a national standard for quality sports clubs recognised across the country.

GolfMark brings a number of benefits to clubs including raising awareness, business and marketing support and training opportunities for staff and volunteers.

The SafeGolf partnership consists of members from the golfing bodies across Great Britain and Ireland and has been established to help golf respond to the issue of child protection in sport.

Brickhampton Court has a growing junior academy school, which is run on Saturday mornings and Thursday afternoons by head PGA professional Stuart Archibald. Half term and summer camps are also in place to help get the youngsters into golf. Adults can also benefit from beginner and improvement sessions, or attend the club’s new golf open day on Friday 5th April.

Brickhampton Court is set in 200 acres of countryside and comprises two charming tree-lined golf courses. The club celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020.
