Tewkesbury sports clubs aiming for a treble top
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 16th December 2024, 09:30
These are heady days for three of Tewkesbury’s leading sports clubs.
The town’s rugby and football clubs are enjoying excellent seasons and are looking forward to following the lead of the cricket club, who won promotion back in the summer.
Tewkesbury Cricket Club won the Gloucestershire Division of the West of England Premier League three-and-a-half months ago and will play in Premier Two in 2025, where they will rub shoulders with the likes of Cheltenham, Hatherley and Reddings and Dumbarton.
Now they are hoping that the rugby and football clubs can be crowned champions in their respective divisions, with cricket club president Hilary Caudle saying: “We have good relationships with both of them, we’re very supportive of them, it’s good for the town.”
It certainly is and there’s every chance that the rugby club and the football club will enjoy just as successful a season as the cricket club.
Tewkesbury Rugby Club have led the way in Counties 3 Gloucestershire North all season.
One-time Gloucester back row Gareth Evans took over as head coach this summer and he has certainly made a big impact with their victories, including a 27-10 success at big rivals Cheltenham Saracens back in October.
Tewkesbury Football Club, meanwhile, have been setting a fast pace in the Division One of the Northern Senior League.
And they’ve already got a cup in the trophy cabinet this season because they defeated Tredworth Tigers 3-2 in the Reg Davis Memorial Cup final six weeks ago.Other Images
