Southrop C of E Primary School cross finishing line in Save our Minibus appeal
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 17th March 2025, 09:00
Teachers, parents and pupils at Southrop Primary School all played their part in the successful Save our Minibus appeal
Supporters of a school in the Cotswolds are celebrating after winning the race to buy the school’s minibus.
Readers of The Local Answer online will know that the PTA at Southrop C of E Primary School launched a Save our Minibus appeal at the start of the year with the aim of raising £15,000 by mid-March so they could buy the 17-seater minibus the school originally leased.
The minibus is a big part of everyday school life and Rachel O’Neill, vice-chair of the PTA, said: “We’re absolutely delighted, we slightly exceeded our target.
“We’ve handed over the money to the school and the minibus has been purchased.”
The minibus allows the children to access daily activities to enrich their learning - that includes sport, of course – and O’Neill said: “The fundraising has been really good, we've had a lot of support.
“We had a jumble sale at Southrop Village Hall on Saturday which raised about £1,800.”
O’Neill said at the start of last month that pupils at the school had also played their part in the appeal by making a promotional video.
The 38-pupil school in Southrop is four miles east of Fairford – O’Neill describes it as a “hidden gem” – and this year is celebrating its 175th anniversary.
O’Neill said it was financially more viable for the school to buy the minibus rather than to continue leasing it.Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
