Cheltenham Town season-ticket holder Adrian Bailey completes 80th birthday charity swim

Lifelong Cheltenham Town supporter Adrian Bailey swam 80 lengths to celebrate his 80^th birthday yesterday and raised £2,000 for a very good cause.

The former Labour MP for West Bromwich West, a Cheltenham season-ticket holder, completed the swim, a distance of about one-and-a-quarter miles, in one hour, 10 minutes, 50 seconds.

“His fastest length was the last one, he swam it in 37.53 seconds,” said his niece Sara Force, who watched him at Leisure at Cheltenham.

Bailey was raising money for the Cheltenham Town Community Trust, the charitable arm of Cheltenham Town Football Club, and Force added: “He was cheered on by family and friends from Cheltenham Town.”

Bailey, a former pupil at Cheltenham Grammar School who watched his first Cheltenham game in 1958, hosted a reception at the football club after his charity swim.

Force, a member of Angels Running Club, said: “We’re all really proud of him.”
