Bournside School pupils prepare for sponsored bag pack to raise money for dual sports tour to Canada

Forget Santa’s little helpers, shoppers at a supermarket in Cheltenham will be getting their own little helpers next week.
Pupils from Bournside School in Cheltenham will be doing their own sponsored bag pack at Morrisons in Hatherley to raise money for their dual sports tour to Canada next year.
Except the helpers won’t be so ‘little’ because they will be made up of under-14 and under-15 rugby players plus under-14, under-15 and under-16 netball players.
“They will be on the tills helping to pack the shopping bags,” said Rebecca Stickland, a PE teacher at Bournside who is helping to organise the tour. “They will all be dressed in their Bournside hoodies and wearing Christmas hats.”
The tour party is made of 67 pupils and they will all be at Morrisons for one hour each between 9am and 4pm on Saturday 15th December.
“There will be a helper on every till for seven hours,” added Stickland, “we’re hoping to raise £500 to £700.”
A quiz night at the beginning of November raised £2,000 – “That was brilliant,” said Stickland – and a sponsored indoor row is planned for Saturday 2nd March in Regent Arcade in Cheltenham.
All money raised is going towards tour kit for each student and funding lunches and excursions.
The party, made up of two rugby teams and three netball teams, will head for Toronto on 18th July before returning home eight days later. It is the first overseas sports tour that the school have organised since 2001.Other Images
