Hartpury student Josh Hood is the best of British
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 24th April 2019, 15:40
Student Josh Hood has capped another successful spell for the Modern Pentathlon Academy at Hartpury College by clinching the number one spot in the Great Britain Under-19 rankings.
Hood powered into first place nationally after winning the second ranking event of the season at Pentathlon GB’s National Training Centre at the University of Bath.
He produced an improved swim from the first youth ranking competition of the campaign and followed it up with strong performances in the fencing and laser-run events.
At the same event, Aurelio Calipa and Alasdair Moir finished in ninth and 13th places respectively.
Archie Wilding took part in the Pony Club Area 17 (Northern Ireland) regional Triathlon Championships, comprising a swim, 10m air pistol shooting and a run.
Wilding, also a member of the Modern Pentathlon Academy, put in a strong all-round performance to take the win and become Area 17 and Northern Ireland champion.
Jack White continued his rich vein of form by clinching third place at the BUCS Modern Pentathlon and Biathlon Championships and strengthen his claims for international selection.
After eye-catching efforts in the ride, fence and swim events, he sealed a top-three spot with a strong performance in the laser run.
Archie Wilding picked up another medal as he finished as the top under-18 athlete at the championships.
At the same event, Libby Tolley made a winning start to the season in the Tetrathlon Championship.
Russell North, Hartpury’s Modern Pentathlon Academy Manager, said: “The continued success of our students is a reflection of the fantastic effort they’re putting into their training, which is tailored around their academic timetables to ensure they have the best possible opportunity to reach their potential.
“It’s a real credit to their commitment, dedication and excellent time management that they’re all able to perform at such a high level.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
