The Queen appoints Edward Gillespie as new Lord Lieutenant for Gloucestershire
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 27th July 2018, 12:20
Edward Gillespie has been confirmed as the new Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire.
The Queen has appointed Gillespie to succeed Dame Janet Trotter DBE CVO when she retires on 29th October.
The ever-popular Gillespie was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year honours list three-and-a-half years ago and currently serves as Deputy Lieutenant for the county.
He lives in Gotherington, where he plays cricket for the village team, and is best known for his 30-plus years working at Cheltenham Racecourse but he has also devoted himself to many, many good causes over the years.
The new role which he takes up in three months’ time will see him represent the Queen in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire, taking on a full range of civic and ceremonial duties.
And one man is certainly delighted to see him receive this latest recognition.
Brian Cosgrove has played cricket many times for Gotherington alongside Gillespie over the years, describing him as “our wonderful Gotherington CC fixture secretary and stalwart”.
And he said of Gillespie’s new role: “It’s a terrific recognition of Edward’s long work and charitable services to the county and wider UK.”Other Images
