Twyning Tigers are a “truly grassroots football club” who play for fun.

They play only friendlies but are proud of the fact they give opportunities to 40-plus youngsters to play the beautiful game.

Their origins can be traced back to 2020 when a group of parents in the village started organising football for their children on the village green.

“At that time we had only eight players and used jumpers for goalposts,” said club secretary Pete Hadley.

“After Covid, and with a newly constructed community pitch and some kindly donated goals, Twyning Tigers were formed.”

That was in 2021 and the club are continuing to thrive.

“Budding young footballers continue to turn out in force on Saturday mornings on the field at  Twyning Recreation and Amenity Complex, continued Hadley, who is one of the club's founder members.

“Twyning Tigers are a truly grassroots club, we’re open to all children aged between four and 11.

“The focus is on inclusive, affordable and fun football, not competitive league football.

“We currently have around 40 members from the Tewkesbury area and are always keen to recruit players of all ages who want to enjoy their recreational football.”

Tigers is a Football Association-affiliated club with qualified coaches – Tom Holmes is head coach – a team of junior helpers and enthusiastic parents.

“We make sure that our players develop at their own pace in a happy, healthy and safe environment,” added Hadley.  “Tigers don’t have player trials, everyone is welcome to come and try out our Saturday sessions.

“Tigers are committed to providing affordable football for all, with subscriptions working out to less than £2 a week across the season.”

And the club – Claire Bryant is chairperson – like to have fun off the pitch too.

“We hold regular events throughout the season, including tea and coffee mornings, Christmas ‘Chase the Elf’ day, summer water fights and our prestigious annual awards,” said Hadley.

Twyning Tigers are keen to recruit more players of all ages and new players are invited to try out the club's sessions on any Saturday morning at 10am in Kilmore Lane, Twyning. The club are also looking to recruit more coaches.
