Newly promoted Tredworth Tigers have made a quickfire start to life in Division Two of the Northern Senior League with four wins out of four.

The goals have been flowing too – they’ve now scored 17 after their 2-1 win at Falcons on Saturday – as they’ve raced to the top of the 15-strong division.

They began their league campaign with a 4-1 win at home to Leonard Stanley, followed up with a 7-1 away walloping of Chesterton and then saw off Kings Stanley 4-3 a couple of weeks ago.

And while it is still very early in the season, there is no doubting the ambition at Tredworth Tigers.

Club secretary Nick Musty, who also manages the reserves in Stroud League Division Four, said: “The goal for both teams this season is to win promotion.

“We want to be one of the biggest clubs in Gloucester alongside the likes of Longlevens and Tuffley Rovers. We’ve got the facilities, the players and the structure; the club are going only one way.”

The club’s flagship team won Stroud League Division One in impressive style last season, of course, and they strengthened considerably over the summer.

Lee Dyer, Adam Foster, Brett James, Jamie Morgan and Adam Fenner all arrived from Upton St Leonards ahead of the new campaign, with Musty describing Fenner as “the best goalkeeper he has seen at this level”.

Meanwhile James, who can play up front or on the wing, has been banging in the goals for fun with Musty saying: “Technically, his feet are unreal, he’s so quick and skilful.”

The Hill brothers, Cory and Tyler, who played such a big part in last season’s success, have also been among the goals along with player/joint-manager Lee Smith.

Smith, who played for the likes of Forest Green Rovers and Gloucester City back in the day, shares the managerial duties with long-serving club stalwart Adam Dix, and Musty said: “We’ve obviously started the season really well, we’ve got some really exciting young players.

“Had it not been for Covid I think we might have gone up a couple of years ago but now we’re here we want to win back-to-back promotions.”

Musty’s reserves, meanwhile, have won two and lost one in the league this season after overcoming Minchinhampton reserves 2-1 on Saturday.

“There are a lot of players playing for the reserves on the fringes of the first team,” Musty said. “We’ve got a number of quality players who can jump between the two squads.”
