Matt Le Tissier set to be star turn for Premier League Legends against Gloucester City Legends
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 12th February 2025, 09:00
One of football’s great entertainers will be rolling back the years at Gloucester City next month.
Matt Le Tissier, nicknamed ‘Le God’ by Southampton supporters back in the 1990s, will head up a team of Premier League legends who will play a team of Gloucester City legends at the TigerTurf Stadium on Sunday 23rd March.
The likes of Ian Harte (ex-Leeds United), Dean Windass (ex-Hull City, Bradford City), Lee Trundle (ex-Swansea City), Jimmy Carter (ex-Millwall, Liverpool, Arsenal), Alex Bruce (ex-Ipswich Town, Hull City) and Paddy Kenny (ex-Sheffield United, QPR, Leeds United) are also set to take part in a game that is expected to attract more than 2,000 fans.
Le Tissier, who is now 56, scored 209 goals for Southampton in 540 games, a good many of them spectacular efforts from long range.
He was capped eight times by England and Matt Phillips, Gloucester’s head of communications, said: “It’s a great opportunity for football fans to see some former Premier League players close up.”
Gloucester’s team is likely to include the likes of Tom Webb, Lee Smith, Gary Kemp. Matt Rose and Alex Sykes and Phillips continued: “These players are so proud to pull on the Gloucester shirt, it’s great to see.”
They will be managed by Kenny Blackburn, who is also a former Gloucester player.
Gloucester City Legends played their first game four years ago and Blackburn said: “A lot of supporters still remember us old ones.
“I signed an autograph for one lady after one of the legends games and she said, ‘I remember getting your autograph years ago’. She must have been in her 60s.”
The match against the Premier League Legends kicks off at 3pm.
Gloucester City Legends squad: Matt Rose, Adie Harris, Matt Sysum, Kenny Blackburn, Doug Foxwell, Ade Tandy, Tom Webb, Alex Sykes, Andy Hoskins, Dave Mehew, Chris Burns, Dan Avery, Gary Kemp, Jack Harris, Jody Bevan, Keith Knight, Kev Sawyer, Lyndon Tompkins, Matt Bath, Mike Green, Neil Griffiths, Lee Randall, Jamie Reid, Marc Richards, Lee Smith, Tom King, Tom Parinello, Tommy Callinan, Will Morford, Neil Mustoe, Alan Gough.Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
