Forest Green Rovers and Shortwood United Reserves are County Cup kings
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 22nd April 2026, 14:00
Forest Green Rovers and Shortwood United Reserves enjoyed County Cup final wins last night.
Robbie Savage’s Forest Green beat Bishop’s Cleeve 6-2 in the GFA Senior Challenge Cup at the New Lawn, while Shortwood United Reserves overcame Westbury United 2-1 in the GFA Junior Cup North.
Goals by Christian Doidge, Tate Campbell, Temi Babalola, Cian Harries and two from Kairo Mitchell secured victory for Forest Green, while Ross Langworthy and Noah Rubio with a penalty were on target for Bishop’s Cleeve.
Two goals by Jake Wellington earned Shortwood United their win over Westbury United at Kayte Lane, a win that follows the flagship team’s 2-1 victory over Newent Town in the Hellenic League Supplementary Challenge Cup final at the end of last month.
Old Richians are Stroud League Division One champions after their 4-0 win at Chalford Reserves. William Matthews, Ross Peters, Samuel Sysum and substitute Ryan Symonds were their goalscorers.
Meanwhile, Longlevens Reserves are closing in on the Northern Senior League Division One title after their 4-0 win at home to Bibury.
Theo Bevan and Findlay Rankin scored two apiece in a victory which takes them a point clear of previous leaders Whaddon United, who have one game to play. Longlevens have two games remaining.
County League champions-elect Sharpness missed a change to go 16 points clear when they lost 3-2 at home to second-placed Filton Athletic last night.
Sharpness still remain in a very strong position, however, 10 points clear of the pack with five games remaining. Filton have six games to play.
Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Cirencester Town as they were beaten 1-0 at Droitwich Spa in a Hellenic League Premier Division play-off semi-final, but Stonehouse Town are through to the final of the Division One play-off.
They won 3-1 at Brewdley Town with their final two goals, scored by Alfie Mann and Jamal Dare, coming in the 93rd and 96th minutes. Josh Beadle had earlier given Stonehouse a half-time lead.Other Images
