FA Cup heroes Bishop's Cleeve head to Chesham United for replay with Yeovil Town next for the winners
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 8th October 2024, 11:00
About 100 supporters are expected to make the 80 miles-plus trek to Chesham United for Bishop’s Cleeve’s FA Cup third qualifying round replay tonight (7:45pm).
And there’s all to play for at The Meadow with the winners hosting National League side Yeovil Town in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday.
Cleeve and Chesham drew 0-0 at Kayte Lane 10 days ago and Paul Collicutt’s men will be heading to Buckinghamshire in confident mood after their 5-1 win at Larkhall Athletic three days ago.
It was their third win in a row in Southern League Division One South and leaves them in 12th place in the 22-strong division, with games in hand on all but one of the clubs above them.
Two goals apiece by Ross Langworthy and Joseph Selman and one for Joseph Nelmes earned them the victory, although because of their cup commitments it was their first league game since Monday 26th August.
Meanwhile Chesham, who play two levels above Cleeve, were losing 1-0 at home to Bath City in front of 1,000-plus fans on Saturday, a result that leaves them 12th in the 24-strong National League South.
Cleeve’s fans will be hoping their team can spring another shock after their 3-0 demolition of Torquay United in the previous round.
And there will be no shortage of optimism because Torquay are third in National League South and won 3-2 at Chesham at the end of August.
This is Cleeve’s sixth game in the FA Cup this season.
They thumped Lydney Town 4-0 in the first qualifying round and overcame Laverstock & Ford 2-1 after the first game at Kayte Lane ended 0-0.
There will be extra time if the teams are level after 90 minutes tonight and if they are still level after the additional 30 minutes a penalty shootout will decide the winners.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
