Cheltenham Spa Women will play in Division Three of the Gloucestershire County Women’s League this season

The new Gloucestershire County Women’s League season gets underway tomorrow and there’s plenty of excitement ahead of the big kick-off.

That’s certainly the case at Cheltenham Spa Women who are looking forward to life in Division Three after winning the Division Four title at their first attempt in 2024/25.

They won 18 of their 20 league games and club treasurer Donna Beaver said: “It was a perfect season, we didn’t expect it, we went into the league with quite a young team.”

Donna’s husband Mark is the manager while their son Alfie is his assistant.

And on the pitch their 17-year-old daughter Ruby, a central defender, is one of their key players.

They begin their campaign at home to Winchcombe Town Ladies tomorrow and while they are in upbeat mood the initial aim is just to stay in the 10-strong division.

The club play their home games at Winchcombe School but their best result last season came away from home in the penultimate game of the season.

Andoversford Women, who finished second, were still in the title hunt and Donna said: “We won 1-0 at Berkeley Town Ladies with a last-minute goal. It was a penalty, Ruby scored it.”

Donna is one of the driving forces at the club and as well as club treasurer she is  also manager of their under-7s, one of nine teams, including the seniors, at the club.

“It’s very exciting,” she said. “It’s crazy how many girls want to play football.”
