Chalford earn place in Gloucestershire County League with play-off win over Filton Athletic

Chalford will be playing in the Gloucestershire County League for the first time in their history next season.

The Northern Senior League Division One champions beat Filton Athletic 2-0 in the play-offs at Almondsbury on Saturday to secure their promotion.

A Bradley Moore header and an own goal gave them the victory over the Bristol and Suburban League title winners and they will be joined in the County League in 2024/25 by Totterdown United, the Bristol Combination Premier League champions, who beat Filton last week.

“It’s brilliant,” said Chalford club secretary Gary Smith. “We lost out in the play-offs last season but winning promotion means the world.

“It’s a reward for all the hard work we’ve put in over the years, it’s what we’ve been striving for.”

Smith has been involved with Chalford for more than 20 years and the club will certainly be looking to make a big impression at the higher level.

They’ll be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Frampton United, Quedgeley Wanderers and Cheltenham Civil Service and Smith said: “We’ll see how the lads go, we’re looking forward to it.”
