Brockworth Albion go marching on in the GFA Senior Amateur Cup
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 10th February 2026, 10:00
Brockworth Albion are buzzing after booking their place in the last four of the GFA Senior Amateur Cup.
And they did it in some style, too, winning 5-2 at Filton Athletic, who are enjoying a fine season in the County League.
Brockworth play a level below Filton in Division One of the Northern Senior League but club secretary Andrew White said: “We tend to do well against the better teams.”
They also tend do well in the Senior Amateur Cup because it is a competition they won two seasons ago when they beat Hanham Athletic, another County League side, on penalties in the final.
That game in April 2024 finished 2-2 but Saturday’s tie at Filton wasn’t as close as Brockworth led 2-0 at the break and then 4-0 before the home side pulled two goals back.
Substitute Kyle Gibbs made the game safe for Brockworth, who will now host the winners of the Sharpness versus Henbury & Rockleaze tie on Saturday 7th March.
Brockworth’s other goals on Saturday were scored by Ryan Vincent, Ollie Horne, Fergus Jackson and Matthew Holdaway, and their performance was all the more eye-catching because it was the first time they had scored since before Christmas.
They have drawn blanks in their three league games in 2026 – losing two and drawing one – although the draw did come at leaders Whaddon United in their previous outing.
“We should have beaten Whaddon,” said White. “They missed a penalty but we hit the bar twice and the post.”
Brockworth are currently seventh in the 14-team division having won six and lost eight of their 17 games and White continued: “We’ve under-achieved in the league this season.
“Unfortunately we’ve had a few injuries and a few people have been away but when we’ve got a full side out, we’re a good side.
“Filton had a few chances and if they’d scored again when it was 4-2 that would have made it tough but we’ve been creating plenty of chances.”
Horne’s goal was the pick of the bunch against Filton.
“It was a tap-in but it was a real team goal,” said White. “It started at the back before going to our captain Matty Cairns.
“He went down the line, reached the byline and then ran along the byline before crossing for Ollie to score.”
Sharpness, who are top of the County League, host fellow County League side Henbury & Rockleaze side on Saturday, and White admitted: “We’ll probably be the underdogs whoever we play but if we get our full side out we’re a match for anyone.”
