AFC Renegades manager Andrew Bullen wants to follow in his dad's footsteps and claim County Cup glory
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 6th February 2026, 09:00
AFC Renegades host Mavericks in a GFA Minor Cup North quarter-final tomorrow in a competition their manager Andrew Bullen is desperate to win.
Renegades have been County Cup winners in the recent past – they won the Minor Cup back in 2018 – but 48-year-old Bullen has a very special reason for wanting to be successful this time around.
This is his second season as manager of the club he re-formed in 2013 and he said: “My dad was manager when Renegades won the County Cup in 1997/98.”
Bullen, who lives in Newent, readily admits that it will be a tough task to follow in his dad Andy’s footsteps.
AFC Renegades, who play in Stroud League Division 4(N), have lost their last four league and cup games and he said: “We’re struggling a bit.
“Last season we won Division 5 North and the League Cup but we lost 14 players over the summer, this season has been a bit of a rebuild.”
They are currently fourth in the 11-team Division 4(N), having won six and drawn one of their 13 games.
Mavericks, meanwhile, are going well in Stroud League Division 3(N). They are second in the table and have won four of their last five league and cup games, most recently winning 7-0 at home to Chalford 3rds in the League Cup when Andrew Fries scored a hat-trick.
The game against Mavericks – Renegades play their home games at Innsworth – will be just that bit more important for Bullen because he says this will be his penultimate season as manager.
“I want to do other things,” he said. “I’m chairman, manager, coach, kitman. I do everything.
“I will still do the admin but I will be looking for a new manager.”
In the other quarter-finals, Shurdington Rovers host Painswick Reserves, Nailsworth Town entertain Bishop's Cleeve B and Mickleton Rangers are at home to Poulton.
