Broadwell Amateurs maintain a hot pace behind County League leaders Thornbury Town
Author: Contributed, Posted: Monday, 15th January 2018, 16:20
Broadwell Amateurs moved up to second place in the County League with an impressive 2-0 win at Stonehouse Town, who themselves have been going well in recent weeks.
Broadwell trail leaders Thornbury Town by six points but have played two games fewer.
The first chance of the match at Stonehouse fell to the visitors on 20 minutes when a powerful strike from Liam Thomas hit a post.
Just four minutes later Broadwell took the lead from a free-kick that was headed in by Jordi Sheen. Jonny Brodie headed over and Liam Walsh sent another effort wide as Stonehouse pressed for an equaliser and another chance went begging five minutes before the break when Tim Williams headed Lewis Fogg’s free-kick over the bar.
Jordan Raith had a great chance early in the second half and Stonehouse were made to pay for their wasted opportunities 12 minutes from time when Greg Lewis was in the right place to tuck home after a free-kick had hit the bar.
Frampton United did their goal difference a power of good with a thumping 7-1 win over Southmead CS Athletic.
The home side were ahead after six minutes through Lewis Wilton and he added a second five minutes before the break following Manolo Espada’s free-kick. It was 3-0 by half-time as Frazer Wilson netted, and the goals continued to flow after the break with Ryan Vincent helping himself to a hat-trick. Jack Bartman got Frampton’s other goal with Lucas Spindola getting Southmead’s only score.
Hardwicke had to work hard to earn a 2-1 win over visitors Little Stoke.
Hardwicke had most of the play in the first half but it remained goalless at the break. Paul Carter fired just over with a good shot on 35 minutes, and a cross from Will Higgins found Paul Carter only for Amin Jones to pull off a fine save. Just before the break, Jones again saved well to deny Craig Harris.
The home side took the lead on 52 minutes following a corner. Rob Hines’ header was cleared off the line and the ball was cleared for a second corner, and this time Carter’s cross was powerfully headed in by Will Matthews. Several more chance by the home side went begging before Little Stoke levelled the score on 65 minutes with a free-kick from Luke Sperring. The winner on 78 minutes stemmed from a great piece of dribbling by Matthews who smashed the ball against a post and Will Higgins was following in to knock the ball home.
Ruardean Hill Rangers, who have played fewer games than anyone else in the league, went down to their fourth defeat of the campaign, losing 2-1 at Henbury.
The home side took an early lead when a Jack Mills free-kick was spilled by keeper Underwood and Tom Palmer knocked the ball in. Underwood then saved well from Keiron Cooper
Andy Dickinson then missed a glorious chance for the home side on 30 minutes from a Cooper cross but they stretched their lead before the break when a corner from Luke Cox sped across the box. It was missed by Aaron Rosser but George Loud was on the far post and he made no mistake.
Five minutes into the second half Ruardean pulled a goal back and it came from Charley Mason’s free-kick from the edge of the box. The visitors lost Luke Johnson on 70 minutes after a clash with Aaron Rosser but they almost levelled on 80 minutes when Shaun Tingle’s shot hit a post and a few minutes later Tingle saw his goalbound effort just tipped over the bar by keeper Simon Bone.
