Three Division One teams crashed out of the new-look Senior Charities Cup on Saturday.

The competition, introduced by the Cheltenham Football League, sponsored by Bristol Street Motors Cheltenham Ford, sees clubs from all four divisions challenging for the same trophy and three teams from Division Two certainly took full advantage.

Step forward Gala Wilton Reserves, Southside Star FC and Prestbury Rovers who beat Dowty Dynamos, Kings and Upton Town respectively, with Prestbury winning after a penalty shootout.

Gala won 8-1 while Southside were equally impressive in recording a 5-1 success. It was closer at Upton where Prestbury pulled through 8-7 in a penalty shootout after the game had finished 1-1.

There was to be no upset at Cheltenham Civil Service, however, where the runaway Division One leaders thumped Malvern Vale Academy 9-1 with Dan Wills grabbing a hat-trick.

Bishop’s Cleeve A team were also too strong for lower division opposition, beating Woodmancote United 7-2 while Newton won 4-0 at Malvern Vale.

Struggling Whaddon United Reserves, meanwhile, forgot their Division One woes as they defeated Division Two side Hanley Swan 4-2.

Elsewhere there were wins for Tewkesbury Town, Shurdington and RSG over Fintan, Leckhampton Rovers and Windyridge Rovers respectively, although RSG needed penalties to go through.

One of the standout ties of the round saw Division Two leaders The Beeches host St Pauls United.

Division Three leaders St Pauls have pretty much swept everything before them since joining the league at the start of last season, but this game was expected to be a real test for them.

And it was one they came through with flying colours at they drew 2-2 at the Cirencester club before winning 5-4 on penalties.

In the league, Andoversford Reserves picked up a point from a creditable 2-2 draw at Tewkesbury Town Reserves in Division Two.

That was the only game in the top two divisions and there were only two matches played in Division Three.

Cheltenham Civil Service III and FC Lakeside Reserves shared eight goals between them when they met in December and the return fixture this weekend promised to be an interesting affair.

Service went into the game on the back of a 4-3 win over the previously unbeaten AFC Renegades while last time out Lakeside were hammered 9-0 by St Pauls. That form continued, although it was close as Service took all three points with a 2-1 win.

It was just as close at FC Barometrics 3rds where Dowty Dynamos Reserves won by the odd goal in five.

Into Division Four and Charlton Rovers 3rds’ troubles at the bottom of the table continue as they were beaten 6-2 by Andoversford 3rds.

They have now lost all eight of their league games this season and currently have minus one point after being deducted a point for failing to fulfil a fixture.

Bishop’s Cleeve Development Reserves are also struggling at the wrong end of the table and they faced a Smiths Athletic Reserves team who have failed to consistently deliver this season. This however was a day in which they did, taking the points with a 2-1 win.

In the final match, Gala Wilton III hosted Fintan Reserves with the battle of two mid-table teams going to the home side by 3-2.

Other results, Senior Charities cup second round: AFC Renegade 1 Winchcombe t 0, Bredon Res 2 Charlton R Res 0, Brockworth Alb Res 4 Cheltenham Utd 0, Welland Res 3 FC Baros Res 5, Pittville Utd 3 Falcon Res 3 (Pittville won 3-1 on pens).
