Ruardean Hill Rangers kept in touch with the top four in the County League with a 2-1 win at Hanham Athletic.

The match was never a classic although Rangers threatened early on when Luke Brown fired straight at Max Heaven in the home goal. Luke Johnson then hit a shot over the bar from 25 yards while Charlie Mason had Heaven diving to his right to save a 25-yard free-kick.

Rangers went ahead on 16 minutes with a great shot across the keeper from the left side of the box by Shaun Tingle. The visitors almost made it two on 26 minutes when Luke Brown sent a low cross into the Hanham six-yard box which they managed to scramble clear at the second attempt.

Hanham were given a great opportunity to level the score on 29 minutes from the penalty spot but keeper Aaron Underwood pulled off a great save to deny Sam Brown.

Rangers started brightly in the second half and Heaven made two really good saves to deny them a second goal. Hanham were given a second lifeline on 50 minutes when Underwood gave away a second penalty and this time substitute George Latham converted. Rangers were not to be denied however and Bobby Walding managed to bundle in the winner in the 82nd minute.

Wick bounced back from their heavy defeat the previous week with a 3-1 success at home to Gala Wilton. It didn’t start very well for the home side when Gala took the lead on five minutes when Ryan Dobbins broke clear to score. Gala keeper Dan Brabham pulled off a good save to deny George Cryer on 20 minutes but the home side levelled on 29 minutes through Danny Sheldon.

Second-half goals by Mike Hardiman and Tyler Dacres ensured Gala went home empty-handed.

Broadwell Amateurs dented Thornbury Town’s challenge for the title taking the three points with a 2-0 win. The highlight of the first 45 minutes was a great save by home keeper Jamie Merry from Craig Lancastle but the fireworks certainly started after the break.

Broadwell went ahead on 53 minutes when the visitors’ defence failed to clear a home attack and the loose ball fell to Harry Williams to fire home. Ian Thomas was guilty of missing a glorious chance to put the home side clear before the second goal came along on 65 minutes when Williams was in the right place to tuck the ball away at the second attempt.

Honours ended even in the clash between Stonehouse Town and Frampton United which saw six goals. It took 30 minutes to open the scoring and it came from a good run down the flank by Stonehouse’s Liam Gale whose cross into the box was handled but fell to Adam Ireland to smash the ball home.

Five minutes into the second half Frampton drew level with a fine goal from Ryan Vincent. However, they enjoyed parity for just three minutes when Gale was brought down on the edge of the Frampton box.

He then got up, took the free-kick and smashed it into the Frampton net. Back came Frampton and they levelled again on 79 minutes when Jonathan Lewis headed home at the near post.

Just minutes later Liam Gale burst into the Frampton box and was brought down for a penalty. Ireland converted but Frampton hit back once more and Manolo Marquez Espada levelled from a corner. The home side then had two late chances to take the points through Warren Mann and Luke Soule but Stonehouse had to settle for just the point.
