Bobby George says the Cheltenham Masters will be one big party

Bobby George will be centre stage and loving every minute of it when the Cheltenham Masters takes place in early April.
The now 73-year-old, who remains one of the great showmen in the world of darts, will be strutting his stuff at the Centaur at Cheltenham Racecourse on Friday 5th April.
Some of the modern-day stars - Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson – will be there as well but for many it will be George, with his larger than life personality, who will be the main attraction.
Anderson and van Gerwen will be part of a star-studded line-up competing for the Cheltenham Masters – a knockout tournament – and George, even though he is well into his eighth decade, has not ruled out taking part himself.
And whether he plays in that competition or not, he will certainly be centre of attention for much of the evening.
“I’ll play against a couple of people from the audience before the tournament starts,” he said. “Their names usually get pulled out of a hat. Some of the other players may play a couple of games too.
“It’s great fun, it gets the crowd involved. It’s one big party and everyone is invited.”
And if George, a two-times world championship runner-up back in the day, does enter the competition proper, how does he expect to get on?
“I might not last too long,” he laughed. “Sometimes I play good and sometimes I play bad.”
The line-up for the Cheltenham Masters includes 2018 BDO World Championship winner Glen Durrant, PDC Austrian Darts Open champion Jonny Clayton, the Dutch Destroyer Vincent van der Voort, three-time Women's World Professional Darts Champion Anastasia Dobromyslova, and 2017 Women’s British Open winner Corrine Hammond.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
