Skipper Angus Gegg delighted as Stroud race to nine-wicket win
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 9th June 2025, 09:00
Stroud beat Langford – and the weather – on Saturday to climb into the top three of the Gloucestershire Division of the West of England League.
And it was some win because after winning the toss, they bowled out Langford for just 59 before knocking off the runs in 9.2 overs for the loss of just one wicket.
“It was a good toss to win,” admitted home skipper Angus Gegg. “I wouldn’t say it decided the result but it was a big factor, it was a green wicket.”
Gegg was one of three bowlers who dodged the showers to claim three wickets – Lewis Culver and Ninad Kadam were the others – as the visitors were dismissed in 24 overs.
Kadam, batting at three, then hit five fours in a 23-ball 38 as Stroud breezed to their fourth league win in six games this season.
The win came seven days after they lost to Charlton Kings by four wickets, when they were bowled out for 100.
They were beaten by 89 runs by undefeated leaders Bourton Vale on the opening day of the season and Gegg said: “We’re either smashing teams or getting smashed.
“We beat Aston Ingham, Thornbury 2nds and Frocester 2nds and lost only two wickets in those three games.”
The 20 points they collected from Saturday’s win - Langford began the day in third place - leaves them 22 points behind the frontrunners and Gegg continued: “We’ve still got aspirations this season, winning promotion is still the goal.”
