Louis Gegg will captain Stroud Cricket Club again in 2022
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 1st February 2022, 09:00
Louis Gegg will again captain Stroud Cricket Club’s flagship team as they look to build on last summer’s seventh-placed finish in the second tier of the West of England Premier League.
And the soon-to-be 33-year-old will continue in the role with the fulsome support of chairman James Collins, who has given a ringing endorsement of his captaincy.
“I can never speak highly enough of him, he’s just a fantastic fella,” Collins told The Local Answer. “He’s obviously a brilliant captain, a fantastic batsman and a brilliant wicketkeeper.
“He’s a very good captain in terms of tactics, working the game, but it’s more than that, he’s a brilliant clubman, he’s a genuine club captain.
“He is interested in all the other teams at the club and is involved in selection from the 1sts to the 4ths.
“He’s also interested in the youth cricket and will go along to watch them train. Last season was the first time that we had an under-19 team. He and I ran it which is testament to his engagement across the whole club and he’s equally passionate about the women’s team.
“His instincts both as cricketer and as a clubman are just fantastic. We work hand in hand on a range of things, we’ve got the same sort of principles and approach to things.”
Collins also captains the men’s 3rd XI and he was delighted to confirm at the club’s recent annual meeting that Tom Richings will continue as 2nd XI captain and Jon Scott will once again lead the 4ths in 2022.
