Jack Taylor, the onfield mastermind behind Gloucestershire’s striking T20 Blast trophy success last year, will play for Hatherley and Reddings this season.

The 33-year-old is expected to be available to play in eight to 10 games for the club in Premier 2 Glos/Wilts of the West of England Premier League.

“It’s a really, really good signing, it’s a big boost for the club,” said director of cricket Sam Coote. “We’re delighted to have him on board.”

Taylor is a batting all-rounder with bags of experience and Coote is looking forward to him making a big impact.

“He’ll do a bit of everything,” he said. “He’s a very clean striker of the ball, he’ll slot somewhere in the middle order for us.

“He bowls a bit of leg-spin and he’s a fabulous fielder. He’s an older head on wise shoulders, the lads are really looking forward to having him in the team.”

Hatherley, who are captained by pace bowling all-rounder Tom Hage, finished sixth in the 10-strong Premier 2 Glos/Wilts in 2024 and Coote is hoping Taylor can help them improve on that this time around.

“We’ve got a young side,” he continued. “We’ve been in this division for four or five years and always finished in the bottom half.

“The league is very strong but it would be nice to have a top-half finish. It would be great if we could start well and take it on from there.”

Hatherley’s opening game is at Dumbleton on Saturday 3rd May and they host Tewkesbury a week later.

They are games which Taylor, these days a white-ball specialist, should be available to play.

“He’s always been a good player,” added Coote. “He’s one of the best strikers of the ball on the county circuit.

“You see it in white-ball cricket, he makes an impact in games. He was a big part of Gloucestershire’s 50-overs cup win in 2015, that was a great campaign.”

Taylor made 35 from 26 balls, and then took 3-43 in 10 overs of off-spin as Gloucestershire defeated Surrey by six runs in the Royal London One-Day Cup final at Lord’s 10 years ago.

He also took a catch off the bowling of David Payne to dismiss Gareth Batty and Coote is expecting Taylor to be a big asset in the field for Hatherley.

“We’ve got some very good fielders but we want to be the best fielding side in the division,” he said. “We want to be the most athletic side in the division.”
