Victory Park celebrating a very special milestone
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 2nd May 2019, 12:30
This is a very big year for Victory Park Bowls Club because they are celebrating their centenary.
And to mark the milestone they are hosting a Special Gala Day on Sunday 26th May which will involve matches against clubs from the surrounding area.
Committee member Linda Stinchcombe has been playing the game for some 20 years – she learned her bowls at Victory Park – and said: “We’re a very strong club although we’d always like more members.
“We’ve got about 100 and we’re one of the strongest clubs around. We play in a lot of competitions but we’re a very friendly club.”
And wannabe bowls players can see that for themselves if they turn up to the club’s Open Day this Sunday (11am-4pm).
Anyone is welcome to have a free taster session guided by seasoned bowlers. And it’s for people of all ages.
“People think that bowls is an old people’s game but it’s not, it’s for people of all ages,” insisted Linda.
“We’ve got children as young as eight who play at Victory Park.”
The club enjoy a lovely location on the edge of Victory Park in Cainscross and their season is already in full swing because it got under way on 20th April.
It runs until 21st September and their six-rink green is sure to receive plenty of use over the coming months.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
