Cotswold Bowls Club all set for a very busy June

The month of June is going to be a busy, busy one for Cotswold Bowls Club.
That’s because they are playing host to a number of prestigious matches, starting on Tuesday 4th June when Bowls England take on the Welsh Bowls Association.
Two-and-a-half weeks later, on Saturday 22nd June, the club will host a John’s Trophy women’s game between Worcestershire and Somerset and a day later they will be home to a Walker Cup clash between Herefordshire and Wiltshire.
The following weekend, on 30th June, they will be the venue for a Gloucestershire Bowling Association men’s division junior singles tournament – an event that starts at 9.30am and lasts pretty much all day.
Cotswold Bowls Club’s managing director Sylvia Chamberlain is understandably very proud that they have been chosen to host so many high-profile fixtures.
The green, which has six rinks and sometimes seven, is looked after by her husband David who, like Sylvia, is a player at the club. He is also the club’s greenkeeper and is helped by a small team of four or five volunteers.
And the big matches at the club aren’t just being played in June as on 6th July, the club will host another John’s Trophy game, this time between Gloucestershire and Warwickshire, and in September they will stage the inter-club semi-finals and final of the Gloucestershire Bowling Association’s women’s division.
All the aforementioned matches at the club, which can be found in Golden Jubilee Way, Dudbridge, Stroud, are in addition to the club’s regular fixtures.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
