Dan Mason and Stu Yapp had their own private tussle at Overbury Bowling Club’s Championship Finals Day

The duo enjoyed a typically very hard fought match before Mason secured the men’s championship 21-20 on the last end.

The men’s handicap also saw the two players slug it out and again Mason pulled through but again it was oh so close, as he won the match on a final end shootout.

In the men’s pairs, Mike Mace and Neil Williams beat Albert England and Dan Mason 21-10, the scoreline not really reflecting how close the two pairs were.

The ladies’ 2 wood championship saw Jan Droy and Barbara Baldwin triumph over Daphne Hayward and Gillian Pearce while in the mixed pairs, Stu Yapp and Daphne Hayward defeated Barry and Sue Robinson 23-14. Pete Jones became the veterans’ champion when he defeated Tony Brown 21-15.

Mike Ames, the organiser of the Club Championships, said: “Well done to all the finalists who provided some top class bowls throughout the day.

“It was a superb men’s singles final which went all the way to the wire. Stu and Dan then kept the standard going in the men’s singles handicap where Stu almost got revenge, but an excellent draw by Dan on a shootout end gave him a second title of the day.”

Meanwhile, Overbury fell just short in their quest for the South Worcestershire Triples League title.

Their A team finished runners-up to Aston Somerville A after winning only one of the three rinks in the decisive match against the eventual champions.
