East Glos member Alex Lane rubs shoulders with the stars of World Athletics Championships

They say that behind every successful man is a good woman and in these days of equality it’s just as true the other way round of course.

Well, behind every successful competitor at the current World Athletics Championships there is a good volunteer.

So, while Mo Farah and Usain Bolt have been lapping up the plaudits at the London Stadium – Bolt is still the star even though he hasn’t reigned supreme this time around in England’s capital city – they will be the first to admit that their lives have been made that bit easier by the host of volunteers at the meeting.

One such volunteer was East Glos Club member Alex Lane.

A spokesman for the Cheltenham club said: “Over 15,000 people applied and Alex was fortunate enough to be offered a position as part of the victory ceremonies team. He started last Saturday evening in the stadium, followed by the marathon on Sunday afternoon.”

Meanwhile, East Glos Club’s Squash Closed Tournament will take place on 9th and 10th September and this year there will be a main tournament and a mixed over 45s event.

The closing date for entries is Friday 1st September.

The tournament is taking place on the same weekend as the club tennis closed finals.
