One of Cheltenham’s longest running independent stores is set to close next year.

Fancy dress shop Showcase, located in Montpellier Arcade, was established by John and Heather Pannett 30 years ago.

“The emphasis has always been to provide excellent service in both the Dancewear and Fancy Dress departments,” said John.

“No other local fancy dress shops have the vast range and quality of costumes that Showcase can offer.”

Over the years John and Heather have been involved with amateur theatrical groups like Promenade Productions, Cotswold Savoyards, Cheltenham Opera and Dramatic Society and Leckhampton Players

Their links with dance schools, theatres and theatrical associations and local schools have also been a key part of their business.

“Obviously we’re very sad about closing,” added John, “we tried desperately to get someone to take over from us.

“But we’re both past retirement age now. It’s a shame because we’re the only real specialists in the area for things like ballroom shoe fittings.”
