Christmas was just the warm up

You've got streamers in the cobwebs and the faint smell of Scotland’s finest lingering in the air. With the 2015 calendar in situ and boxes of “it’s the thought that counts” gifts taking up much needed space, what’s left to do? Treat yourself! Christmas was just the warm up and here’s some inspiration.
Apple smart watch
This gadget is set for release in early 2015 and serves to complement the already formidable Apple tech arsenal. This game changer includes a laminated flexible retina display made and milled from a single sapphire, a zirconia rear plate comprising infra-red and visible light LEDs to detect heart rate, inductive charging (wireless), a choice of six different straps and a side positioned watch dial named the ‘digital crown’ for control.
Designed to work in tandem with the iPhone, this watch acts as a smaller, easily accessible interface without the need to reach for your phone. This will prove popular with those investing in the new iPhone 6, measuring up at 5.44 x 2.64”. Like the built-in sat nav to your otherwise standard family car, this gadget isn’t entirely necessary, but it would certainly make life easier and is one cool bit of technology
I certainly want my hands on! As yet, no price has been confirmed but rumour stands at £225 plus.
selfie stick
With phones and smart watches comes social media. Giving the nod to online photo sharing we have the recent release of the ‘Selfie Stick’. Priced on average at £6-8 this extendable arm clenches the user’s mobile phone and allows the perfect selfie (a photo of one’s self) to be achieved. Popular with both genders, this is a must for any self-respecting selfie addict. But would you be seen with one?
build your own solar powered gadget bot
For kids, this month I turn to the ‘Build your own solar powered gadget bot’ range. These popular kits come in the form of six bots – including a car, a plane and a boat. A fun activity with a useable toy at the end, this range brings education and play together in an enjoyable and informative setting. Priced at £5-9 on average, general feedback looks positive – though some components are small and may frustrate those with less patience, so adult help may be required.Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
