It’s a new chapter for Gloucester as the long-awaited Hotel Indigo Gloucester opens at The Forum on Tuesday 24th March 2026.
A first glimpse of the interiors of the 129-room hotel reveal design nods to the city’s pin-making industry, Beatrix Potter’s classic story ‘The Tailor of Gloucester’, the historic docks, Roman history, and aviation and motorcycle legacy.
The crowning glory of the four-storey building is a rooftop bar with spectacular views across the city.
Alongside the bedrooms and bar are an all-day bistro and café on the ground floor. They are both open to locals, not just hotel guests. There’s also a private event space.
After many delays with opening dates, the launch is a huge moment for the hotel, which has been financially supported by Gloucester City Council.
Council leader, Jeremy Hilton, said: “I am delighted Hotel Indigo has taken inspiration from our unique and beautiful city, which rightly deserves to be celebrated.
“This is our first boutique hotel, and it will be a catalyst for change in terms of what we can offer the thousands of visitors who come to Gloucester.
“It will mean Gloucester is not just a day trip but an overnight destination with a quality hotel right next to transport links.
“Along with The Forum development, it will attract more people to the city, boosting the local economy and providing jobs.”
Within the hotel design, buttons, clothes hooks and metal accents reference the tools of a tailor’s workspace.
In 29 rooms and suites, bedside lights designed as oversized pins reference the tradition of 'pin money'.
Hints of Beatrix Potter’s ‘The Tailor of Gloucester’ can be seen through playful mice.
Gloucester's historic docks have inspired designs, patterns and shapes, with tall ships and boats featuring inside the hotel.
The engineering history of the city is seen in decorative cogs and metalwork motifs, while colours draw on dark shades of water with tones of industrial grey and bottle green.
Gloucester's Roman history is referenced across fabrics and mosaics. Meanwhile the city’s ties to the Cotton Motorcycle Company are marked with a colourful motorbike in the reception area.
General manager of the hotel, Nadia Fakhredin, said: “Our team has worked hard to create an experience which enhances Gloucester’s already rich tapestry of culture and heritage.”
