Cheltenham Borough Council is delivering a pioneering project to transform West Cheltenham, creating a vibrant and innovative community, through Golden Valley, with the national cyber innovation centre at its heart. I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you about the development and what it will bring to our town.

Golden Valley will include over one thousand low carbon homes of differing types and sizes to suit a variety of needs, including 35% affordable housing. The development will also be a bustling hub where small local businesses, growing UK companies, and big global tech and cyber firms coincide with one million square feet of flexible commercial space with the potential to create over 12,000 jobs.

At its heart is the 160,000 square feet national cyber innovation centre – a future home for Cheltenham’s growing tech ecosystem, featuring offices and event spaces, together with food and drink brands. This innovation centre will form phase one of the development, with final designs currently underway.

A landscape-led approach

Created by innovative developer HBD, part of Henry Boot, Golden Valley has a landscape-led approach, packed with green spaces that complement the existing landscape of the area, providing space for sport, recreation, biodiversity, walking and cycling. We will see a vibrant and pioneering garden community that will also enhance the high standards of environmental sustainability.

Once complete, Golden Valley will build on Cheltenham’s strengths as a centre for innovation, providing jobs, opportunities to learn new skills, and raising the ambitions of young people. We are already seeing strong interest across the board in Golden Valley from occupier businesses, including startups and large enterprises, as well as academia.
