A few weeks ago, we received brilliant news – Loungers are coming to Kings Square! They will take up the ground-floor space at Kings House, a property owned by Gloucester City Council. Previously, it was the Chambers Pub before it closed.

My administration agreed that at this location we wanted a classy food and drink offer, and the council’s asset management team came up trumps. They negotiated with Loungers and deserve a big thank you. They delivered on the cabinet’s ambition to make this part of the city a wonderful place to be and to do business.

Creating 30-40 jobs locally

If you’ve ever been to Portivo Lounge at the Quays, you’ll know what a treat we’re in for. They’ve taken on a 5,000 sq ft space right in the centre of Gloucester, and it’s going to be one of their Lounge venues – relaxed, stylish, and open all day. They’ll be serving everything from breakfast to cocktails, and creating 30-40 jobs locally, which is a real boost.

What I really like about Loungers is how they connect with the community. They’re not just about food and drink – they welcome local groups, charities, and anyone who needs a space for events or meetups. It’s the kind of place that feels like it belongs to the neighbourhood.

Alex Kalebic, Head of Acquisitions at Loungers, said they were excited to be part of the regeneration of Kings Square and are aiming to open next spring or summer. They’re applying for planning permission now, including outdoor seating that will overlook the revamped square and the university campus.

The area is really starting to buzz

This follows Patch announcing their flagship site in the Forum opposite, and with Hotel Indigo, Jolt and The Music Works all nearby, the area is really starting to buzz.
This is a big step forward for Gloucester and Loungers is a terrific addition.
