Gloucester stands out as one of England’s top small cities, boasting a rich history spanning over 2,000 years. Our magnificent cathedral, known for its remarkable architecture, has seen significant events, Henry III was crowned there in 1216, and Edward II is buried within its walls.
This year, the Three Choirs Festival will be held at Gloucester Cathedral from 25th July.
Looking ahead to 2027, we are planning a citywide festival to mark the 200th anniversary of Gloucester Docks. The docks feature 15 Victorian warehouses, most of which have been revitalised, with the remaining section at Bakers Quay next to be done.
Today, visitors can enjoy Gloucester Quays outlet centre, Gloucester Food Dock, a cinema, and many nearby restaurants. The transformation of the docks showcases the city council’s commitment to urban regeneration.
Forum will accommodate 1,000 workers once fully occupied
We have recently completed Forum, offering state-of-the-art, high-tech offices now home to Fasthosts and Patch, with more tenants expected soon. Once fully occupied, Forum will accommodate 1,000 workers, and the city centre university campus is bringing additional activity to King’s Quarter. I expect some of the empty units nearby will gather new tenants.
March saw the opening of Hotel Indigo, Gloucester’s first four-star hotel, conveniently located near both railway and bus stations, and adjacent to a 400-space multistorey car park. Loungers will soon open a new restaurant opposite the hotel.
There are ongoing plans to increase city centre living, building on the developments at Whitefriars. We are in conversations with others.
Our next major initiative is progressing the Greyfriars Project, which will offer a new indoor events space, a food hall, and a modern relocated indoor market in Eastgate Shopping Centre. The public realm outside and next to Greyfriars Priory will also get a makeover, as will the bowling green.
