Charlton Kings Care Home – A Novel Approach

At Charlton Kings Care Home they’re always looking at ways they can do things differently to enrich the lives of those who live and work there. Maintaining close links with the community is an important part of this.
The residents hugely enjoy a regular visit from Cheltenham College where the children visit for an afternoon to take part in and help with a host of activities. Over Christmas they were also joined by Charlton Kings Infant School for a day of Wild Science and were then invited to the school for the children’s nativity play. Having this involvement with both schools brings such joy to the residents and they look forward to arranging many more events in 2019.
In the meantime, the wonderful activities co-ordinator, John, has passed his minibus driving test so is busy planning a whole host of trips. Together with the residents they’ve already identified a few likely spots – Westonbirt, Tewkesbury Abbey and Town Hall Tea Dances to name but a few.
Residents and staff alike are lucky to have John who strives to create new and rewarding experiences for all the residents. A new initiative for 2019 sees him building links with Nepal!
Having received some information about the Gurkha Welfare Trust the staff recently hit upon the idea of trying to establish a link to two residential care homes in Nepal built and operated by the Trust. They’ve established a connection with the aim being to:
a. Provide a regular donation specifically to be used in the operation of the homes
b. Arrange fund raising activities (more to follow on that front through the Facebook Page)
c. Sharing stories between some of the residents. In Nepal and at Charlton Kings Care Home a number of residents have Military experience so if they can just share some of these stories it would make for an interesting and informative exchange!
The New Year brings with it plans of a new kitchen and some remodelling of the sitting room and dining room areas to create even better space. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on what we’re up to and how we’re getting on!Other Images
