January seems to be a time when so many people start to think about how they live and what they’d like to change about their home, so I thought I’d share with you some of the latest trends in interior design that we’re likely to see a lot of in 2025. They all link together to celebrate the natural world and how we represent it in our homes.

Biophilic design
Biophilic design means a love of living things and nature. It’s all about how we connect people to nature in our homes and is a strong design direction. You can interpret this however you wish, whether it’s using natural materials such as wood and stone, living with house plants, or using bold floral wallpapers or murals. Being connected to nature makes us feel more alive and vibrant in our day to day life.

Organic shapes
Shapes in the form of arches, curved kitchen islands, curvy furniture and wavy edges, as a step on from scalloped edges, are all current trends. They give a softer feel to a room and when you’re talking about furniture they can really help with the flow of a room, especially where layout is a challenge. Curvy sofas also look more interesting from the back when placed across a room rather than against a wall.

Colour drenching
When it comes to colour, the trend for using warm, earthy tones to colour drench, or double drench rooms, creates a deep and soothing palette. Colour drenching a room uses a single shade across all the walls, ceiling and woodwork. Double drenching is what the paint company Little Greene call decorating with two or more related colours alongside each other.

The latter allows you to highlight a particular feature of the room to make a statement, whilst still blending ceilings and walls with woodwork and other architectural features to bring the room together. Pairing these methods with the colour palette of the natural world will undoubtedly give a striking, enticing and warm feel to a room.

Fabrics
When choosing fabrics in 2025, look towards bold checks, stripes and other geometric patterns. They look fantastic combined together and sitting alongside florals and block prints in soft furnishings.

We spend a lot of time inside and never more so than in winter. Design trends that connect us with nature are exactly what we need at this time of year to lift the spirits and help us to feel cosy and cosseted, yet still vibrant and connected. Happy New Year!
