Gloucester band The Filthy Casuals are looking forward to what they hope will be a big 2020.

After releasing two singles in 2019 and performing at plenty of festivals and gigs throughout the county and beyond, they will be kicking off the new year with what could be their most important performance to date.

That’s because they have been chosen as one of 30 bands shortlisted to play the Pilton Stage at the Glastonbury Festival in June.

The festival is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary and yesterday announced the legendary Paul McCartney as one of the headliners.

And The Filthy Casuals, also known as Scott McAlpine, Sam Harris, Max Gregory and Dan Taylor, are hoping they can join The Beatles star on the festival line up.

“It would be like a dream come true to play on a stage at the biggest music festival in the world,” said lead singer Sam.

“Even at such a young age I think it will give the much needed experience of playing in a more professional environment, which will impact our future careers in the music industry and could potentially open many doors for us.”

The competition to play on The Pilton Stage received over 1,100 applications.

The shortlisted 30 bands and solo artists will now compete in a series of heats, with the winners of each heat then competing in the final in March.

“Knowing that people think that we are potentially good enough to play a slot on a stage at Glastonbury is incredible,” said Scott.

“It encourages us to perform to the best of our ability throughout these heats and we will do our best to show people that we are worthy of a slot.”

The boys will be competing in the fourth live heat on Saturday 25th January, in Pilton in Somerset.

Max added: “We’re still going into this competition humble as we know there are many other awesome bands that we will have to face, and some that have much more experience than us.

“We will put on our best performance and hopefully progress further.”
