When it comes to live music, there’s not many places better in Gloucester than Café Rene.

The bar and restaurant is well known in the city for hosting regular gigs and shows, and this month will be hosting their annual Renegade Festival.

The Festival is a free to enter event which will see musicians and artists from all around the county invited to perform.

“We always look forward to Renegade Festival here at Cafe Rene,” said Jojo Roche, who works at the venue.

“We started Renegade nine years ago as a showcase for local music in the city as live music venues were diminishing at the time and are of course vital to the local music scene.”

The festival begins at 2pm on Saturday 27th April and will include a barbeque and an outside bar. The event is free entry and always has been, says Jojo.

In the past, as well as musical performers, the festival has featured local artists and other creatives, as Jojo explains.

“In previous years we have turned our Cellar Bar and Mary de Crypt church into art galleries, and had live graffiti and artwork on Greyfriars Green,” she said.

“Regardless of what else we put on the live music is always at the heart of the event and the majority of acts are from Gloucestershire.”

After recently hosting folk artists as part of the Gloucester Folk Trail, Café Rene will feature a more eclectic mix of performers for the Renegade Festival.

Jojo added: “This year’s line-up consists of a colourful combination of Dub, Ska, Punk, Electronica and Reggae.

“We’ll be hosting Gardna, Counting Coins, JPDL & Yogi Beats, Ital Sounds In, DSD, Prime Position and Grove and we just can't wait to see all of them!”
