The school summer holidays are upon us, and here at The Local Answer we know it can be a challenge to keep the family entertained when school is out.

So we’ve put together a handy guide of the best things to do in each of our five publication areas – Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, North Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds – in the coming months.

Primrose Vale Farm Shop
Take advantage of the summer months by paying Primrose Vale a visit on the Shurdington Road, to pick your own local produce.

With a wide range of crops from strawberries to asparagus, the farm is open until September for picking alongside the farm shop, which is open all year round and sells local produce including breads, cheeses and organic meats. There’s even a café on site for post-picking refreshments.

The Bacon Theatre Open Air Theatre Festival
Situated at the Tuckwell Amphitheatre, open-air performances will be taking place throughout the summer, spanning from Wednesday 17th July until Thursday 1st August.

Performances will include the works of various theatre companies presenting classics such as Much Ado About Nothing and Wuthering Heights, which will also be accompanied by productions such as Gangsta Granny.

The weekend will include live music, cooking demonstrations, `Man V Food’ challenges, magic shows, trade stalls, street theatre, chilli eating competitions, treasure hunts and even human sized table football!

Hidden Cheltenham Summer Trail
Following the success of the Cheltenham Easter Trail, the Hidden Cheltenham Summer Trail begins on Wednesday 17th July and runs until Monday 2nd September.

The trail takes participants through the town, uncovering clues with a prize waiting at the end.

The Brewery Quarter Summer Jam
