Cheltenham College is delighted to have raised over £54,000 for charity in the past year! This sum was split between various charities with the biggest beneficiary being the Prefects’ chosen charity, The Chamwell Centre, which received a donation of over £24,000. A trustee of the Chamwell Centre, Ellen Montilla, visited Cheltenham College to receive the cheque [pictured with some of the Cheltenham College Prefects].

The Chamwell Centre will be a new a state-of-the-art therapy centre for disabled pupils at The Milestone School, as well as supporting adults and other young people from communities throughout Gloucestershire.

The Prefects raised the majority of the money (over £16,000) by organising a Whole School Walk up Leckhampton Hill, where each pupil raised their own sponsorship money. Another key event was the Jamie Waters Cup match against Radley College, held on neutral ground at Worcester Warriors’ Six Ways Stadium. The Prefects sold match programmes, wristbands and hosted a raffle, which raised over £2,000.

Dr Adam Dunning, Director of Charities, said, “Though the £54,000 represents a remarkable whole-school fundraising achievement, I am also very proud of all the small-scale relationships that have built up between College pupils and their adopted charities. Having a charity mind-set goes beyond wanting to raise money; it is also about service, and the giving of time and talent.”

Other notable achievements include the £11,500 raised by the Houses for their chosen charities and over £6,500 raised through individual pupil efforts for various charities. The sum of money raised demonstrates how important charitable giving is to the College community.
